Glass x Teeth 'Whispers Heard Through Waiting Room Windows' MC OA 15

Info

Distance makes proximity easier.

Artistic collaboration as the most intimate form of communication. It’s always a precious moment where One allows Another into their creative space, but sometimes that is needed for growth and change to happen.
Recordings of modular synthesiser and flute by Amamanita Axaxaxanax Glass Seer serve as the impetus for the creation of “Whispers Heard Through Waiting Room Windows”. Through them, Teeth Dreams (aka Vi Aisling) chisels a cold but emotional five-part composition utilizing sound collage, musique concréte, and generative/granular synthesis processes. Alien-like soundscapes of the duo are always morphing into the next iteration, giddy with creative juices - indecipherable screech-like synth lines soon give way to a barrage of noise blasts that soon roar with a distorted voice. The latter, courtesy of Glass Seer, gives the piece an important human quality, rooting the abstract in the shared experience of the flesh. Crucially, they mark a change in the piece as they writhe, floating on a cloud of reverb, producing a sublime, heavensward chant, scattered synths swirling on the sides. An almost-romantic flute escapade closes off the project, a mood shift like no other.
“Whispers Heard Through Waiting Room Windows” showcases contrast on the record and off it. A project of “emotional intimacy” between two artists who have seldom met but have shared a stage and, now, an album.

“The physical distance involved allowed me the space necessary to engage with another person, and their ways of making art, without feeling like I'm drowning in their presence,” says Teeth Dreams.

Distance makes proximity easier. Make space, and emotions will follow.
