From A Harbour Softly Drawn 'Shepherds' LP/CD FD-63

Info

From A Harbour Softly Drawn is the new project from Scottish multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Fraser McGowan. Drawing from ambient, jazz and electronic influences the project serves as a logical follow-up to the quiet lo-fi, ambient & folk records as Caught In The Wake Forever and Small Town Boredom.

Shepherds was born almost a decade ago, from a summer’s worth of recordings of late night improvised attic sessions with friends & early morning field tapes taken from the shorelines of the West of Scotland.

Over time, memories of who played what & when faded. All that remained were hard-drives full of forgotten loops, sketches & samples providing a wealth of foreign sounds to be resampled & moulded into something new. Guided by the source material and drawn from a love of early 90s ambient & mellow jazz records, Shepherds was cultivated slowly & methodically over an 8 year period, with the careful blending of samples & rich instrumentation into a collection of downbeat, late night, melancholic slow burners.

At its heart, Shepherds is an album as much about collaboration as it is about isolation. About family, friends & being alone. Inspired by and dedicated to the things in life that guide, whatever you’re doing & wherever you’re going.
